Central Reserve League

The absence of a reserve league for east coast clubs from the lower leagues prompted the formation of the Central Reserve League. Running for just one season, it was an unusual competition in that games were advertised but they were 'unofficial' in the sense that clubs organised and paid for their own referee and linesmen.J McConville, Dunfermline Athletic Secretary, acted as League Secretary and results etc had to be supplied to the Dunfermline Athletic office. The only other comparable tournament from recent times was the Tayside Midweek Reserve League which operated in the mid 1980s, including the four Angus sides, St Johnstone and the two Dundee clubs. Scheduled from September until the end of March, the bad winter caused many postponements, and the league was wound up unfinished.
